How old do I need to be to hire?

You need to be age 23– 75 to hire. If over 25 you must have held your licence for 12 months.

If under 25 you need to have held your licence for two years and conviction free, also hire is subject to vehicle groups 1, 7 and 8 only.

Minibus Hire is for ages 30-70 and subject to licence restrictions on 14/15/17 seaters.

What proof will I need to bring to hire a vehicle?

Our insurance stipulates we have to see your…

  • UK Driving licence (Photo ID is also required if an original paper licence such as a passport)
  • 2 separate letters with your name, postal address that is dated in the last 3 months that have been received through the door. Electronic versions are not accepted.
  • You will need to know your National Insurance number or complete Driver License Check Code online https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

Can I hire a vehicle if I have points on my licence?

Yes on most occasions but it can vary. We would need to hear from you, always call the office regarding your points as regrettably some points can affect your hire.

What mileage is allocated to my hire?

We apply a 200 mile allowance to your first day and then an additional 150 each day of hire thereafter, capped at 1000 for the first week, subsequent weeks are 500 miles. Any mileage over this will incur a fee of £0.20p per mile so for example for an extra 50 miles it’s £10. If you are renting for longer than a week, please check with our team for a mileage allowance.

About Us

Alley Cat Car & Van Rentals have traded successfully for over 25 years. It all started in 1995 – Founder & Owner took his Escort Van to be fixed at his commercial ford garage, a mistake meant that the vehicle wasn’t ready for another 4 weeks. With a courtesy van provided in somewhat of a poor state and essential for Phil’s trade at the time not being allowed to put a roof rack on it, another van was bought. Once the escort van had been fixed, there was now a spare, whilst parked at a trade warehouse a query was raised whether a van was available…. there started a rental agreement that sparked the revolution that is Alley Cat.
